MMI Daily Iron Ore Index Report March 20 2026 in Chinese iron ore and steelmaking prices 20/03/2026 Today， DCE iron ore fluctuated upward today. The most-traded I2605 contract finally closed at 815.5 yuan/mt, up 1.05% from the previous trading session. Spot prices rose by about 4-7 yuan from the previous trading day. Traders were slightly more active in offering quotes, while steel mills made inquiries cautiously. Overall spot market transactions were subdued. As of this week, total iron ore inventory at main ports nationwide was 156.39 million mt, up 980,000 mt MoM, with the pace of inventory accumulation slowing slightly from previous weeks. Meanwhile, daily average iron ore port pick-up volume reached 2.745 million mt, up 215,000 mt WoW, indicating that iron ore supply pressure had eased somewhat and market demand also showed a rebound trend. Affected by the continued structural shortage, the destocking trend of some branded iron ore remained evident, providing some upward momentum for prices. In terms of market sentiment, as long-term contract negotiations had not yet reached an agreement, the overall market remained cautiously watchful, awaiting more information, which to some extent restrained the price upside driven by the structural shortage. Therefore, close attention should be paid to negotiation progress in the short term to determine whether the market will move unilaterally; if the negotiations fall into stalemate, iron ore prices are expected to continue to rise.
