Greek capesize specialist Seanergy Maritime has further strengthened its fleet with the purchase of another Japanese-built vessel. The Stamatis Tsantanis-led owner and operator said it had snapped up an unnamed 181,396 dwt unit built at Koyo Dock in 2012 for $35.6m. The ship description matches the Orange Tiara, which, according to S&P databases, Japanese owner Daishin Senpaku agreed to sell in March this year. Seanergy currently has a fleet of 16 capes and one newcastlemax. Earlier this year, the Nasdaq-listed company agreed to buy Shunzan Kaiun’s 2013-built Kinokawa Maru for $33.7m. The 181,392 dwt vessel will be delivered in June and renamed Iconship, while the latest purchase will join the fleet between July and October. Seanergy returned to profit during the first quarter of 2024, netting $10.2m on the back of higher iron ore exports and healthy coal volumes. In addition to vessel purchases, the company recently bagged a charter extension from Glencore for its 2010-built scrubbed-fitted cape Knightship.
