Mermaid Subsea Services UK, a subsidiary of Mermaid Maritime, has extended its charter of the subsea support vessel Island Valiant for work in the North Sea. The charter of the vessel, which has been with the company since 2024 for well plug-and-abandonment activities and inspection, repair, and maintenance campaigns, has been extended by another year. When the vessel was hired in 2024, Mermaid Subsea Services had the highest number of vessel-based well-decommissioning operations ever completed in a single year in the basin, plugging and abandoning 30 wells. “The North Sea decommissioning market is at a pivotal moment, with operations set to ramp up in the coming months and years. By committing to the basin for another 12 months, we’re continuing to provide our customers with expertise in well decommissioning and asset integrity that will support safe, streamlined and profitable operations,” said Scott Cormack, regional director for Mermaid Subsea Services UK. He added that the company’s calendar was filling up for the remainder of 2026 but stated that there were still slots available for the season. The Island Offshore-owned Island Valiant was built in Aker Yards Langsten and delivered in 2007.
