FacebookTwitterEmailLinkedin An oil spill from the sunken cargo ship Sealloyd Arc has spread to beaches and nearby islands off Phuket, Thailand, raising concerns about environmental damage and tourism. Around 1,700 litres of oil leaked after the vessel sank on February 7, forming a slick reported to stretch up to 7km long and 1.5km wide. Tar balls and black stains have washed ashore along a 900-metre stretch of beach on Koh Hey (Coral Island), including the popular Banana Beach, with other at-risk areas including Ao Rawai, Koh Kaeo Noi, Koh Kaeo Yai, Nai Harn, Rawai Beach and Kata Beach, several of which contain valuable coral reefs and seagrass beds.
