Klaipėda Port handled nearly 700,000 TEUs during the first half of 2026, strengthening its position as the leading port in the Baltic States. Containerised cargo reached 7.2 million tonnes, representing a 12% increase compared with the same period of 2025. The segment remained the port’s main driver of growth. The Port Authority attributed the performance to rising maritime transit volumes and the launch of a direct deep-sea service between Klaipėda and Asia. Expanding short-sea services and long-term infrastructure investments also supported growth. “The Port of Klaipėda is highly diversified, and that is one of the key elements of its success,” said Algis Latakas, Director General of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority. Latakas added that the port achieved a strong cargo-handling performance despite the war, sanctions, tariffs and wider market uncertainty. Ro-Ro traffic continues to rise Ro-Ro cargo transported by ferry reached almost 3.4 million tonnes, up 4% year on year. The number of freight vehicles passing through Klaipėda Port increased to 173,505 units. This compared with 169,280 vehicles during the first half of 2025. The strongest growth came from ferry connections linking Klaipėda with Germany and Sweden. Oil and LNG volumes increase Klaipėda Port handled 2.3 million tonnes of oil products during the first six months of 2026. This represented an increase of 12%, or 242,000 tonnes, driven mainly by higher export volumes. Liquefied natural gas recorded one of the strongest growth rates. LNG throughput increased by 37% to nearly 1.6 million tonnes. The Port Authority linked the rise to stable regional demand and growing cargo flows destined for Ukraine. Fertilisers and vegetable oils recover Fertiliser volumes increased by 14% to 894,000 tonnes. This represented an additional 112,000 tonnes compared with the same period last year.
