The Dutch authorities have revealed that another offshore wind site will be added to the upcoming permitting round. In January, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) announced that the round would have only one offshore wind area up for grabs – the 1GW IJmuiden Ver Gamma-A. The country has now announced that wind farm developers can also apply for another 1GW site – Ijmuiden Ver Gamma-B. Together, Gamma-A and Gamma-B will generate enough electricity for 2m households. The licensing round will be conducted near the end of the year. According to the Dutch authorities, tenders for both sites are expected to close in December 2026. The subsidy decisions and associated permits are expected to be granted in the first quarter of 2027. The wind farms are likely to start generating energy from 2032. For IJmuiden Ver Gamma-B, a developer can receive a maximum subsidy amount of €0.103 ($0.12) per kWh. This is slightly lower than for IJmuiden Ver Gamma-A, because the expected wind yield of IJmuiden Ver Gamma-B is higher due to the location of the site. IJmuiden Ver Gamma-A and Gamma-B will connect to the same TenneT offshore platform. The generated electricity will be transported to the mainland via the platform and come ashore at Maasvlakte. “By licensing the lots simultaneously, the wind farms can connect together immediately upon successful licensing. This ensures the best possible use of the offshore grid.
