Maersk has announced a revision to its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for shipments from Asia to Southern Africa, effective July 1, 2026, until further notice. The updated surcharge will apply to cargo originating from China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, destined for Mozambique, Madagascar, Seychelles, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Eswatini, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Under the revised tariff, the PSS has been set at USD 1,800 per 20-foot dry container and USD 2,000 per 40-foot dry container. Maersk noted that the surcharge applies to non-spot bookings only and is based on the Price Calculation Date (PCD). For non-FMC trades, the PCD corresponds to the scheduled departure date of the first ocean leg at the time of booking confirmation, while for FMC-regulated trades it is based on the last container gate-in date. The carrier added that the surcharge will be collected according to the freight payment terms applicable to each shipment.
