Hong Kong-based Venture Energy has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with Shanghai Shenji Energy & Environmental Technology, marking a significant step up from existing spot trade cooperation into a broader green fuel supply partnership. The agreement, signed at Shenergy Group’s Shanghai headquarters establishes a hybrid supply framework combining spot market flexibility with medium- to long-term offtake commitments. The collaboration will also encompass green fuel trial bunkering, the development of a trading platform, and technical management services for marine vessels. Venture Energy, a subsidiary of Hong Kong shipowner Wah Kwong, said it intends to scale up procurement volumes progressively from 2026, with green methanol forming the initial cornerstone of the partnership. The tie-up is designed to give shipping customers more predictable access to regulatory-compliant low-carbon fuels as FuelEU Maritime and IMO decarbonisation regulations tighten the screws on the industry. Greg McMillan, executive director of Venture Energy, said the deal positions the company across multiple green fuel pathways. “This strategic collaboration marks an important milestone in Venture Energy’s green fuel supply chain development. Through our partnership with Shenji Energy, we are able to secure a stable supply of green methanol while also establishing an early position across other green fuel pathways. Together, this enables us to offer more comprehensive decarbonisation solutions to shipping customers worldwide.” Shenji Energy’s parent, state-backed Shenergy Group, brings significant industrial firepower to the partnership. Founded in 1987, the group spans power, gas, hydrogen, and environmental protection across China. Zhu Jiaqi, chairman of Shenergy Environment, said the alliance would harness the complementary strengths of both organisations. “Together, we will drive the standardised and large-scale development of China’s green marine fuel industry,” he said. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsHong Kong
