Dutch floater expert SBM Offshore has ordered two additional Fast4Ward multi‑purpose floater (MPF) hulls, expanding its newbuild hull fleet under construction to four. “Considering the robust market outlook, we have ordered two additional new build Fast4Ward MPF hulls to support ongoing tendering activities,” SBM said in its first‑quarter report. The company did not disclose which shipyard will build the hulls. However, it has options for additional hulls in three Chinese shipyards – Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, China Merchants Heavy, and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry. The other three hulls, including the two new orders, are being set up for active and future FPSO tenders, most probably in Brazil’s Sergipe‑Alagoas basin, where SBM is bidding for two gas‑heavy FPSO projects. One of the hulls currently under construction has been earmarked for the Longtail development offshore Guyana, where operator ExxonMobil awarded FEED contracts to SBM in March. SBM claims that the Longtail FPSO, if approved, will have the largest gas‑handling capacity of any FPSO in the global fleet. Another eight Fast4Ward hulls are currently in operation or have already been delivered.
