Speaking on May 20 at an Atlantic Council event, Al Jaber warned that the prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz continues to place severe pressure on global energy markets and supply chains. His comments represent one of the “pessimistic” assessments offered since the outbreak of the Iran conflict, which has led the International Energy Agency (IEA) to describe the closure of the Strait as the largest energy crisis in history.
