Greek containership tonnage provider Costamare has expanded its newbuilding programme in China, adding four more 3,100 teu vessels to its growing series. The New York-listed owner, led by Konstantinos Konstantakopoulos, said it has signed up for the construction of the additional ships at a Chinese yard, with deliveries set between the fourth quarter of 2027 and the fourth quarter of 2028. Each of the vessels has already secured medium-term charter employment starting immediately upon delivery, continuing the company’s strategy of tying new orders to forward cover. The latest deal brings Costamare’s total orders for 3,100 teu newbuildings to 10. The group re-entered the newbuilding market last year for the first time since 2018, signalling renewed confidence in long-term demand for mid-sized boxships. The initial order comprised four vessels at Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard, later increased to six. Those six ships are due for delivery between the second quarter of 2027 and the first quarter of 2028 and will begin eight-year time charters upon handover.
