Port Everglades generates approximately US$ 48.3 billion in economic activity and supports nearly 300,000 jobs throughout Florida, according to a new study by maritime industry analyst Martin Associates covering fiscal year 2025. The significant increase over previous reports reflects a methodological expansion to capture the full economic impact of the port’s petroleum distribution operations, which had not been comprehensively accounted for in earlier assessments. As Florida’s leading seaport for receiving and distributing gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, Port Everglades supplies 12 counties and five international airports. The inclusion of the complete related user impact of waterborne petroleum trade drove a 72 percent increase in total calculated economic activity and a 44% increase in supported jobs statewide compared to the fiscal year 2024 report. Approximately 13,139 jobs are directly dependent on port business activity, a more than 7% increase year-on-year. Cruise operations contributed significantly to the results, with a record 4.7 million cruise guests generating a 21.7% increase in business activity and a 9.4% rise in direct local employment. Cargo volumes also set a record at 1.167 million TEUs, with associated economic activity rising 17.9% and direct jobs increasing 5.3%. The port’s business activity contributes nearly USD 1.9 billion to state and local taxes, a 69% year-on-year increase. Port Everglades CEO and Port Director Joseph Morris highlighted the port’s role as a self-sustaining enterprise fund of Broward County government, funded entirely through user fees rather than local tax revenues, and emphasised that energy, cargo and cruise represent its three principal revenue generators.
