Sustainability Report 2025 published in International Shipping News 17/04/2026 AtoB@C Shipping’s parent company ESL Shipping has published its Sustainability Report 2025, covering the company’s environmental, social and governance performance for the calendar year 2025. During the year, ESL Shipping reached a key milestone as its near‑ and long‑term climate targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The targets are aligned with the 1.5°C pathway of the Paris Agreement. ESL Shipping is committed to reducing well‑to‑wake greenhouse gas emissions per ton‑nautical mile by 59.6% by 2030 from a 2023 baseline and to achieving net‑zero operations by 2040. In 2025, absolute well‑to‑wake greenhouse gas emissions decreased year‑on‑year, supported by fleet renewal, operational efficiency measures and increased use of renewable fuels. Fleet renewal progressed in both business segments, with six low‑emission vessels added during the year and Green Handy newbuilding program advancing as planned. “Sustainability for us is much broader than emissions alone. Safety, people, and responsible business practices are all fundamental for sustainable maritime operations today and in the future”, says Mikki Koskinen, Managing Director of ESL Shipping. “Recent geopolitical events have highlighted that dependence on fossil fuels costs us and society too much. Being a leader in sustainable shipping and alternative fuels gives us the competitive edge needed and safeguards our future profitability”, Koskinen continues. ESL Shipping maintained a strong focus on safety and achieved ISO 45001 occupational health and safety certification for its Finnish operations, while continuing to develop its safety culture. Governance practices were further strengthened through supplier assessments, vessel audits, human rights due diligence, and enhanced compliance and cybersecurity management.
