EU naval operation Aspides has stated that a French destroyer rescued all the crew from the badly damaged Sounion suezmax that was attacked in the Red Sea four times yesterday. The Delta Tankers owned and managed tanker, was attacked 77 nautical miles west of Hodeidah, Yemen, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. It is now at anchor in the Red Sea and no longer drifting. It is unknown if the fire which started during the attacks was extinguished or not. The tanker was laden with 1m barrels of Basrah heavy crude from Iraq. The vessel is currently abandoned. The Sounion is the third ship in Delta Tankers’ fleet to come under attack in the Red Sea. Earlier this month, the Houthis attacked the Delta Blue four times in the space of 24 hours with rocket-propelled grenades. The first Delta Tankers ship to be attacked was the Delta Atlantica. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations also said yesterday that another vessel was attacked yesterday.
