The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia has approved an updated Environmental and Energy Policy, aligned with the port’s Strategic Plan 2035 and Net Zero Plan. The revised policy reinforces Valenciaport’s commitment to decarbonisation and extends its sustainability obligations beyond the port’s internal operations to encompass all companies operating within the public domain under its management, as well as customers, suppliers and other stakeholders across the port and logistics sector. The updated policy encompasses several strategic commitments: advancing decarbonisation to address climate change, supporting the energy transition, promoting the circular economy, fostering biodiversity protection and periodically analysing the environmental interactions of port activities, products and services to identify and manage associated risks. Prevention and minimisation of environmental impacts, staff training and information provision, carbon footprint calculation and the active involvement of all stakeholders in the port system’s energy transition are also embedded within the policy framework. In a complementary decision, the Board approved the delegation of procedures to the Chair of the Port Authority to launch a tender process for the construction of a new electrical substation. The project carries a budget of EUR€15.6 million and is co-financed by the European Commission through the Connecting Europe Facility. The new infrastructure will double the port’s power capacity, representing a decisive step toward enhanced operational reliability and environmental sustainability in support of the port’s broader electrification and decarbonisation objectives.
