Following significant revisions to the Renewable Energy Directive in 2023 under the EU’s “Fit for 55” package, Member States are required to incorporate RED III objectives into national law to meet binding renewable energy targets. These targets apply to the entire transport sector—including maritime—and require either a 29% renewable energy share by 2030 or a 14.5% reduction in greenhouse gas intensity.
