Contargo North France has launched its first two electric trucks in France and officially opened a new charging station at the container terminal in Bruay-sur-l’Escaut. Ports de l’Escaut inaugurated the facility on June 8 alongside Contargo and representatives from government and industry. The new charging station features two charging points for electric heavy-duty vehicles. The port authority installed the facility at the entrance of the Bruay-sur-l’Escaut terminal. At the same event, Contargo unveiled two fully electric Mercedes eActros trucks that will handle container deliveries in the region. The project supports efforts to reduce emissions from freight transport and accelerate the transition to cleaner logistics operations. The Syndicat Mixte Docks Seine Nord Europe / Escaut, which operates the public port infrastructure in the Valenciennes area, invested in the charging infrastructure. The authority handles around 1.2 million tonnes of cargo by inland waterways each year. By promoting inland shipping and multimodal transport, the organization aims to lower transport emissions while strengthening the competitiveness of the Hauts-de-France industrial region. The launch of the charging station and electric trucks marks another step in the region’s efforts to support sustainable freight transport.
