Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has revealed the winners of the latest offshore wind tender round which were awarded 2.7 GW in total generation capacity. The country’s authorities revealed that five projects were among the winners of the offshore wind auction, named Round 3.2. The chosen projects were Shinfox’s 700MW Youde, Synera Renewable Energy’s 800MW Formosa 6, CIP’s 600MW Fengmiao 2, the Corio Generation and TotalEnergies-operated 360MW Formosa 3/Haiding 1, and Enervest’s 240MW Deshuai. The only other company that applied to the auction was Ørsted with its 570MW Greater Changhua 3 project. One reason the Danish developer was not awarded capacity in this round was that, according to the Ministry’s previous statements, only five offshore wind farms would be allocated capacity due to site overlapping. Industry experts believe that another possible reason is that Ørsted’s bid had lower local content compared to its competitors.
