The most commonly known symptoms of Zika virus are headache, fever, rash, joint pain, and inflammation on the underside of the eyelid. However there are further symptoms being reported such as neurological disorders which could lead to paralysis and death. The virus is known to circulate in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific. We advise all Members who have vessels trading in these regions to keep up-to-date with the advice published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention . Both organisations are expert in this field and guide the Club. In addition, we recommend that Members keep in contact with our Correspondents in the area for the most up-to-date information regarding outbreaks, including any new restrictions or procedures that may be imposed in the local vicinity. Members should be aware that in addition to the precautions required in known Zika virus areas, further restrictions and health checks may be imposed by port authorities of countries Members subsequently visited. The WHO has issued a Frequently Asked Questions document to assist with enquiries such as: How is the disease transmitted? What precautions can be taken?
