Samsung Heavy wins 485 billion-won FSRU order as LNG demand rises in Asia in Shipbuilding News 04/05/2026 Samsung Heavy Industries said on the 4th that it won an order for one liquefied natural gas (LNG) floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) from a shipowner in Asia for 484.8 billion won. The FSRU, known as an offshore LNG terminal, is used in regions where energy demand is surging or where building an onshore terminal is difficult. Because an FSRU takes less time to build than an onshore terminal, it is emerging as one of the solutions for power supply amid the spread of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. Samsung Heavy Industries said it is demonstrating order competitiveness in the global energy market with an FSRU equipped with its independently developed regasification system (S-Regas). Samsung Heavy Industries provides integrated solution services that cover the entire LNG supply chain, from floating LNG production facilities (FLNG) to LNG carriers and LNG FSRUs. A Samsung Heavy Industries official said, “As demand to secure energy infrastructure has been increasing recently, FSRUs can be the fastest and most practical alternative,” and added, “We will lead the global market with a strong LNG value-chain lineup.” From January to April this year, ships ordered at Samsung Heavy Industries totaled 17 vessels, including one LNG-FSRU, six LNG carriers, and two very large ethane carriers (VLEC), amounting to about $3.4 billion (about 5.0092 trillion won).
