Evergreen has placed an order for five 24,000 TEU containerships at Guangzhou Shipyard International. The vessels will be LNG-fuelled, with unit prices ranging from USD 262 million to USD 295 million, bringing the total contract value to between USD 1.31 billion and USD 1.47 billion. The order comes just five to six weeks after Evergreen’s board approved a separate order for six ships of the same size from Hanwha Ocean, underlining the Taiwanese carrier’s aggressive fleet expansion strategy in the ultra-large vessel segment.
