Image for representation purposes only Greek Police arrested a Palestinian man, suspected of being a part of Hamas, and planning to attack an Israeli Cruise Ship. The 37-year-old was working in a hotel on the island of Crete, from where the police nabbed him. According to the police, the man arrived in Greece from Gaza a year ago and was given asylum. He has two children in Gaza and was recruited by Hamas while he was living there. The man is also being investigated for travelling to Malaysia to receive training for making explosives. Searches conducted in his home in Crete and Athens revealed several mobile phones, laptops, hard drives and bank cards. Police also seized lab equipment and chemicals that could be used for making a bomb. He is also said to have connections with a cell of four other Palestinians recently arrested in Cyprus for illicit activities. According to the local media, the suspect might be trying to attack the Israeli-owned cruise ship Crown Iris, which was due to arrive in Crete on Tuesday. The police are investigating whether he was planning to target other Israeli interests or sites in Europe. In 2025, the cruise ship Crown Iris was blocked by Palestinian supporters in a protest to prevent Israeli passengers from disembarking onto the island of Syros. The ship had to be rerouted to Cyrus due to the declining security situation.
