Although both lanes will remain in service, a single culvert will be provided during filling and spilling operations and consequently all lockages at Gatun will take longer than usual. In preparation for this outage, the East lane at Gatun locks will be closed for 10 hours, from approximately 2000 hours Sunday, June 12 to 0600 hours Monday, June 13, and the West lane will be closed from approximately 2000 hours Monday, June 13 to 0600 hours Tuesday, June 14, 2011. In addition, from 2000 hours Friday, June 17, 2011, to 0400 hours Thursday, June 23, the East lane at Miraflores Locks will be closed for miter gate maintenance work. Prior to the beginning of this lane outage, starting at approximately 2200 hours on Thursday, June 16, a six hour outage will be necessary for the removal of Miter Gate 108. As a result, and in accordance with the rules governing the Transit Reservation System (OP’s Notice to Shipping No. N-7-2010), Condition 1.a will be in effect from Monday, June 13, through Friday, June 17, and from Thursday, June 23, through Friday, June 24. Condition 2 will be in effect from Saturday, June 18, through Wednesday, June 22. Applications for reserved transits while Condition 1.a. is in effect will be received beginning at 0900 hours on Friday, June 10, 2011. Applications for reserved transits while Condition 2 is in effect will be received beginning at 0900 hours on Wednesday, June 15, 2011. The booking slot available through the Auction Process, as well as the slots available for regular vessels less than 300 feet in length, will continue to be offered during this period.
