news Tanker Markets & trade Splash247
Mumbai-based Seven Islands Shipping’s appetite for MR tankers continues to turn heads, with fresh deals underlining an aggressive expansion drive amid India’s rising energy demand. The company has emerged as one of the most active buyers in the product tanker space, snapping up 11 vessels since the start of 2025, according to sales registers; nine of the deals are confirmed. This includes six MR units acquired since June, two suezmaxes last autumn, and three smaller clean tankers. The concentration of MR purchases within a few months signals a focused fleet-building strategy rather than opportunistic acquisitions. Data from VesselsValue shows the owner is one vessel short of a 20-strong MR fleet. The latest addition is the Hansa Tromsoe, a 51,500 dwt MR2 chemical/product tanker built in 2008 at STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, which has reportedly changed hands for $16.9m. The vessel was sold by German owner Leonhardt & Blumberg. Earlier this year, the Fairfax Financial Holdings-backed owner was widely linked to more tonnage, as brokers and sales registers listed it as the buyer of two sister vessels, Hafnia Crux (52,600 dwt, built 2012) and Hafnia Leo (52,300 dwt, built 2013), both constructed at Guangzhou Shipyard International. The pair were sold by Hafnia for about $23m each in a deal concluded in mid-February. According to VesselsValue data, the Indian company’s fleet has now, for the first time, crossed the half-a-billion-dollar mark, with a total market valuation of $549.4m. The fleet currently comprises 30 vessels, all flying the Indian flag. The Hafina sisters will bring the fleet to 32 ships upon confirmed delivery. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsIndia
