Image Credit: Everllence Marine engine manufacturer Everllence has completed the type approval test (TAT) for its ammonia-fuelled engine, moving it closer to commercial deployment. The test was conducted at the company's Research Centre Copenhagen (RCC) from June 10-12 under the supervision of eight classification societies, the firm said in an email statement on Tuesday .  According to Everllence, the successful completion of the TAT marks the final approval stage before sea and gas trials. The ammonia-fuelled engine had completed a factory acceptance test in April . “The TAT is yet another important step as we definitively move from concept development to seagoing engine operation, Bjarne Foldager , head of two-stroke business at Everllence, said. “It confirms the Everllence B&W ME-LGIA as ready for on-board installation and is the last test before actual sea and gas trials.” Ammonia is widely regarded as one of the leading candidates for reducing GHG emissions from shipping, but challenges remain around fuel handling, safety and regulatory requirements.
