Newbuilding Orders on the Rise in Hellenic Shipping News 04/02/2026 More newbuilding orders were reported over the past week, many of which were for modern container shipping tonnage. In its latest weekly report, shipbroker Banchero Costa said that “in the bulk sector, Greek owner Safe Bulkers placed an order of 2 x 82,500 dwt kamsarmax vessels to an unidentified Chinese yard. Therefore, no prices were disclosed, but deliveries are set for Q3 and Q4 2028. Shanghai Lending placed an order of 2 x 82,000 dwt kamsarmax vessels to Wuhu shipyard. The price for each vessel is $42 mln deliveries are set for Q3 2028 and Q1 2029. In the tanker sector, Singapore’s Eastern Pacific placed an order of 2 x 306,000 dwt VLCCs to China’s Hengli H.I. shipyard. No prices were disclosed and deliveries will take place 2H 2028. Chinese yard Hudong-Zhonghua secured an order for 4 x 306,000 dwt VLCCs from Greece’s Dynacom. No prices were disclosed and deliveries will span from Q1 2028 until Q2 2029. Italian owner d’Amico Tankers placed an order of 2 x 50,000 dwt product carriers to Jiangsu New Yangzi yard in China. The price for each vessel is $45.4 mln and deliveries are set for Q1 and Q2 2029”. Source: Xclusiv “In the container sector, Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine placed an order of 7 x 5,900 teu carriers to Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in China. No prices were disclosed and deliveries will span from Q2 2030 until end-2031. Swiss owner MSC placed an order of 2 x 5,000 teu carriers to Yangzhou Guoyu shipyard in China. The price for each vessel is $50 mln and the duo will be delivered mid-2028. Evergreen placed an additional order of 16 x 3,100 teu carriers to be split between two Chinese yards. Jiangsu New Yangzi secured 7 of the 16 orders, while Huangpu Wenchong secured the remaining 9 orders. The price for each vessel is estimated to be between $46 to $56 mln and deliveries will start Q2 2028 and finish in Q1 2031. In the gas sector, Korea’s Samsung shipyard secured an order of 2 x 174,000 cu.m. LNG carriers from USbased investment company JP Morgan. The American company will charter the vessel for another owner. The price for each vessel is $252 mln and deliveries are set for Q3 2028 and Q1 2029. Greek company TMS Cardiff placed an order of 4 x 174,000 cu.m. LNG carriers to Hudong-Zhonghua. Deliveries are scheduled to start in July 2026 and finish in December 2027”. Banchero Costa concluded. Meanwhile, in a separate note, shipbroker Xclusiv said that in the S&P market, in the dry segment, “on the Capesize sector, the “Irene II” – 180K/2006 Imabari was sold for USD 21 mills to Chinese buyers, while the Scrubber fitted “Robusto” – 174K/2006 SWS was sold for mid USD 19 mills basis delivery Far East Apr/May 2026. Greek buyers acquired the Kamsarmax “Rize”- 82K/2012 HMD for USD 17.7 mills, while the Kamsarmax “Aya” – 82K/2006 Tsuneishi found new owners for USD 10.7 mills. On the Supramax sector, the Electronic M/E “Indigo Spica” – 58K/2014 Shin Kurushima was sold for USD 21 mills to Greek buyers, while the “Anasa” – 56K/2008 Mitsui was sold for USD 13.3 mills. On the Handysize sector, Greek buyers acquired the “Jetstream”- 35K/2012 SPP for high USD 12 mills. Moreover, on the same sector, the “Yangtze Grace” – 33K/2012 JNS and “Yangtze Happiness” – 32K/2012 JNS were sold for USD 10 mills each to Chinese buyers”.
