DHL is expanding its global battery logistics network as demand grows across electric mobility, battery manufacturing and energy storage. The logistics group has connected more than 20 EV and Battery Centers of Excellence worldwide. Further expansion is also planned. The network combines the capabilities of DHL Supply Chain, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Express. It covers manufacturing logistics, transportation, warehousing and aftermarket services across key global markets. DHL builds specialized battery logistics network DHL said battery supply chains require specialized handling and regulatory expertise. These requirements are becoming more complex as electrification expands beyond passenger vehicles into industrial equipment, mining and energy infrastructure. Some battery systems now weigh more than 50 tons. “Battery logistics is fundamentally different from traditional supply chains,” said Francisco Milián, Head of Inbound to Manufacturing, DHL Supply Chain EMEA. “Customers need specialized capabilities throughout the entire battery lifecycle, from inbound logistics and manufacturing support to storage, distribution, refurbishment, returns and recycling.” DHL’s dedicated facilities combine specialized warehousing with services such as battery diagnostics, testing and charging. They also provide conditioning, repair, reverse logistics and preparation for recycling. New battery facilities in Europe In Halle, Germany, DHL recently made 13,000 square meters of battery-ready warehouse space available. The company is also preparing another specialized battery logistics facility in Hungary. It is expected to become operational in 2027. Many of the facilities combine warehousing with transportation, customs and cross-border logistics services.
