File Image / Pixabay Scorpio Tankers has agreed to purchase the four scrubber-fitted tankers from Chinese shipyards, with the vessels scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2029 . The two LR2 product tankers will be built by Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co for $72.8 million each, it said in an announcement on Tuesday . The vessels are expected to be delivered in October and November 2029 . Scrubber systems or exhaust gas cleaning systems, enabling them to run on HSFO while meeting the IMO 's global 0.5% sulfur cap. The two VLCCs will be constructed by Hengli Shipbuilding (Dalian) Co. for $135 million each, with deliveries scheduled for September and October 2028 . Separately, Scorpio has agreed to sell three existing scrubber-fitted product tankers for a combined $180.5 million . The sales are expected to close before the end of 2026 . Scorpio currently owns 74 product tankers, comprising 25 LR2s, 35 MRs and 14 Handymax tankers, with an average fleet age of 10.2 years. The company also has agreements or letters of intent for five MR newbuildings, eight LR2s and four VLCCs, in addition to the latest orders.
