Image Credit: Hoegh Autoliners Norway -based Hoegh Autoliners has signed a contract for six LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers from China . The company signed the shipbuilding contract with China Merchants Group in Naples this week, the firm said in a LinkedIn post yesterday. The vessels will be built by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) and delivered between 2029 and 2031 . The dual-fuel LNG vessels will be capable of carrying up to 9,100 cars and could reduce carbon emissions per transported car by up to 58% compared with conventional PCTCs, Hoegh Autoliners said. The newbuilds part of the Aurora Class programme will also have DNV ammonia-ready and methanol-ready notations. This means that they are suitable for conversion to methanol or ammonia propulsion in the future. The Aurora Class programme could eventually grow to 26 vessels , with an option for four additional ships and construction slots reserved for another four. The company currently operates a fleet of around 40 pure car and truck carriers.
