American Club Circular No. 1 2/17 1 MARCH 13, 2017 CIRCULAR NO. 12/17 TO MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION Dear Member: PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL EXAMINATION (PEME) PROGRAM: 2017 AMENDMENTS TO THE GUIDANCE AND PEME FORM: NEW PEME CLINIC IN SINGAPORE 2017 amendments to guidance and PEME form Your Managers recently undertook a review of PEME program requirements. As a result, there have been no amendments to the substance of examinations, but some administrative changes have been made. They are as follows, and take effect from today, March 13, 2017. 1. American Club Pre-Employment Examination Form-2017. The form will henceforward include an element prescribing such medication, lifestyle or dietary changes a clinic might deem necessary as a condition of a seafarer’s employment. This is to assist seafarers in managing their health properly. 2. Guidance on Standards for Pre-Employment Medical Examinations (PEMEs), Third Edition, March 2017. There have been no amendments to the actual tests required under the PEME. However, the Guidance will henceforward include a body mass index (BMI) criterion, psychological tests, as well as requirements for clinics regarding declarations and statistical reporting. 3. Updated PEME price list. The price list for American Club PEMEs has been updated for those clinics which have reported their tariffs. Not all have yet done so. Your Managers are working with clinics to get the price listing as up-to-date as possible. All approved clinics have been notified of these changes. As from today, the American Club PreEmployment Medical Examination Form-2017 will be issued to seafarers upon passing the Club’s PEME.
