Image Credit: CMA CGM French shipping company CMA CGM says food company Bel Group is using its low-carbon shipping programme to reduce emissions linked to the ocean transport of its products. The ACT+ programme cuts CO2 emissions from shipments by using second-generation biofuel blends and certified emissions reduction mechanisms, CMA CGM said in a LinkedIn post on Thursday . CMA CGM said the ACT+ offer allows customers to choose emissions reduction levels of 10% , 25% , 50% or up to 83% , depending on their decarbonisation targets. “By leveraging alternative fuels like second-generation biofuels and certified mechanisms, companies can adapt their decarbonization strategy across the entire supply chain,” it said. Several companies are opting for low-carbon shipping services to cut emissions linked to cargo transport. The programme uses a book-and-claim approach to allocate emissions reductions from low-carbon fuels to customer shipments. The model allows companies to claim emissions reductions even if the low-carbon marine fuel is used on a different ship, helping expand access to greener transport options.
