SAAM Towage strengthens fleet with new high-tech tug in Port News 07/02/2026 SAAM Towage announced that it has received a new high-performance tug, which was named SAAM Guanay and built by Turkey’s Sanmar Shipyards. The new Boğaçay Class vessel, the 13th built by Sanmar Shipyards for SAAM Towage, is based on Robert Allan’s RAmparts 2400SX MKII design. This unit has been specifically designed to optimize maneuvering in ports with restricted space, combining versatility with high installed power. SAAM Towage’s Director of Sustainability and Development, Pablo Cáceres, confirmed that “the SAAM Guanay brings together the design and power required for today’s operational challenges, incorporating eco-friendly systems that significantly reduce NOx emissions. Technology and sustainability The vessel stands out for its compliance with IMO Tier III environmental regulations, thanks to its Caterpillar 3516E engines and selective catalytic reducer (SCR) system. With a length of 24.4 meters and a beam of 12 meters, the vessel boasts 80 tons of bollard pull. Its main technical features include: Firefighting capability: FiFi-1 certification.
