Hutchison Ports BEST has officially inaugurated the expanded Navarra Intermodal Terminal (TIN) in Noáin, Spain, following a modernization project valued at more than €10 million. The investment has tripled the terminal’s operational capacity and is aimed at strengthening rail freight connections between Navarra and the Port of Barcelona, providing regional businesses with improved access to international markets. The expansion project, launched after Hutchison Ports BEST secured the concession from ADIF in 2024, increased the terminal’s size to 42,000 square metres. The upgraded facility now includes two new 550-metre rail tracks and a dedicated operational yard for rail activities and container storage. According to the company, the terminal currently offers five regular rail services to the Port of Barcelona, compared with a single weekly service when operations began in 2013. Through Barcelona, customers gain access to a network of more than 200 international ports. Pablo García, Director of the Navarra Intermodal Terminal and Synergy, Hutchison Ports BEST’s rail operator, said the investment reflects the company’s long-term commitment to the region. “This investment represents a strong commitment to Navarra for the coming decades. The expansion of the terminal will allow us to continue supporting the growth of companies across the region and consolidate a logistics infrastructure capable of enhancing their competitiveness in international markets,” he said. The project also supports Hutchison Ports BEST’s decarbonisation strategy. The company is progressively replacing diesel-powered equipment with electric machinery while promoting a modal shift from road to rail freight. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior representatives from the Government of Navarra, ADIF, the Port of Barcelona, and Hutchison Port Holdings Europe.
