Norwegian offshore vessel owner DOF has secured a major long-term win in Brazil, landing 12-year charter and services contracts for four newbuild ROV support vessels tied to deepwater work for Petrobras. The contracts, awarded after a competitive tender process, will see the vessels deployed on subsea inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) campaigns, with operations expected to begin from 2030. The combined value is close to $2bn. The deal underpins a newbuild programme expected to be executed at Navship, with the first two vessels slated for delivery within four years of contract signing. Each vessel will be a DP2 unit, measuring around 98 m in length, and designed for deepwater operations. The specification includes subsea cranes, accommodation for up to 58 personnel and dual work-class ROV systems. DOF is also leaning into lower-emission designs, with hybrid propulsion combining diesel, ethanol and battery systems. Execution and operations will sit with DOF’s Brazilian arm, which will handle the full scope of services under the contracts. The company said it is exploring alternative ownership structures for the vessels as part of its financing strategy, although contractual responsibility will remain unchanged. Funding is expected to rely heavily on local development financing. Chief executive Mons Aase said the structure of the deal — newbuilds backed by long-term charters — provides low-risk growth while supporting fleet renewal.
