Product tanker giant Hafnia has signed up for eight new MR tankers at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in a deal worth about $405m. The BW Group-backed company said the vessels will deliver between the third quarter of 2028 and the second quarter of 2029, adding fresh, fuel-efficient tonnage to its core MR segment. Chief executive Mikael Skov said the order secures early slots at a top-tier yard and builds on designs the company already knows well. “The series delivers scale benefits and predictable performance across the fleet whilst strengthening earnings quality and supporting disciplined renewal of our MR segment,” Skov added. The move follows a string of disposals earlier this year, when Hafnia agreed to sell 10 older tankers as part of its renewal strategy — swapping ageing ships for newer, more efficient units. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Oslo- and New York-listed owner controlled a fleet of 114 owned vessels and nine chartered-in ships across LR2, LR1, MR and handy segments. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsSingapore
