Brazilian offshore driller Constellation Oil Services has won a new contract for one of its drillships from compatriot Petrobras. The company won a three-year deal for its 2012-built drillship Amaralina Star. The work scope will cover, in part, remote areas of frontier exploration, such as the Equatorial Margin and Pelotas Basin. The ultra-deepwater DP drillship has been on hire with Petrobras since 2022. In December last year, the rig won an extension for 12 months keeping it in Brazil working for the state-owned giant into October 2025. The new contract is for approximately $528m, which includes a $39m mobilization fee and additional integrated services. The drillship will begin work under the new deal in the first quarter of 2026. Petrobras has an option to extend the contract for up to an additional 315 days. After the initial deal ends in the last quarter of 2025, the drillship will undergo preparations for the new contract with adequacies, hull cleaning and class inspections. According to a Westwood rig count from the beginning of the month, the company has five more rigs working for Petrobras – the Atlantic Star, Brava Star, Gold Star, Laguna Star, and Lone Star. Its Alpha Star rig is currently undergoing inspection. Constellation will also add the Tidal Action, formerly the West Libra, to the rigs working for the Brazilian oil giant. In September, the company secured contracts for two drillships worth around $1bn. One went to the Tidal Action and the other was an extension for the Laguna Star.
