MSC Shipping to impose emergency fuel surcharge on Mediterranean routes in International Shipping News 09/03/2026 MSC Shipping (private company) will implement an emergency fuel surcharge on all cargo shipped from the Mediterranean and Black Sea to the Indian Sub-Continent, Red Sea and East Africa, the shipping company announced. The emergency fuel surcharge will take effect on March 16 and remain in place until further notice. The charges will vary depending on the destination and cargo type. For shipments from the Mediterranean and Black Sea to the Red Sea, MSC will charge $30 per twenty-foot equivalent unit for dry cargo and $50 per twenty-foot equivalent unit for refrigerated cargo. Cargo bound for East Africa from the Mediterranean and Black Sea will incur charges of $60 per twenty-foot equivalent unit for dry containers and $90 per twenty-foot equivalent unit for refrigerated containers. Shipments to the Indian Sub-Continent from the Mediterranean and Black Sea will be subject to a surcharge of $40 per twenty-foot equivalent unit for dry cargo and $60 per twenty-foot equivalent unit for refrigerated cargo.
