Rapidly expanding Greek owner Venergy Maritime is stepping up its tanker newbuilding drive, firming up options for two more MR product tankers at South Korea’s K Shipbuilding. The move lifts its total MR orderbook at the yard to eight vessels, as the Vyron Vasileiadis-led outfit continues to scale up at pace. The latest units are slated for delivery in 2028, about a year after the first six ships are due to hit the water. Earlier this year, K Shipbuilding disclosed a deal with a European owner covering two firm 50,000 dwt MR2s plus two options, widely linked to Venergy. The contract was valued at roughly $200m, pointing to a price of around $50m per vessel, with deliveries of the initial pair expected in the third quarter of 2027. Venergy, part of the Piraeus-based Vassiliadis Group, only entered shipowning last year, starting with the acquisition of three secondhand MR2 tankers. Since then, it has moved quickly to build out a modern fleet through newbuildings. The tanker expansion comes alongside broader diversification across the wider group. Sister company OceanV has also moved into containerships, 1,900 teu feeder vessels at CSSC’s Huangpu Wenchong yard in China. Operating under the V Group umbrella, Venergy sits within a broader platform spanning port reception facilities, waste management, renewable energy and alternative fuels.
