Vietnam Ocean Shipping (VOSCO) has moved further into the tanker segment, lining up a pair of MR product tanker newbuildings in South Korea as part of its ongoing fleet renewal push. Shipbuilding sources said the Haiphong-based owner has contracted two 50,000 dwt vessels at K Shipbuilding, with pricing understood to be around $52m per unit. The order marks a steady expansion of Vosco’s tanker arm, which has historically played second fiddle to its dry bulk operations. The company currently runs a fleet of more than 10 bulkers, largely supramax and handysize units, alongside a smaller tanker segment and a limited boxship presence. The two newbuildings will add to a tanker fleet that, according to the company’s website, stands at four vessels in the 47,000–50,000 dwt range. While delivery dates for the two vessels have not been disclosed, similar contracts at K Shipbuilding typically point to slots around 2027–2028. The move follows a wider investment plan first outlined in late 2024, when Vosco, controlled by state-owned Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), signalled a fleet renewal programme worth more than $400m.
