Correspondents Vitsan Mumessillik ve Musavirlik AS have confirmed reports that there is an ongoing issues with oil cargo being contaminated with organic chlorides in some of the tanks at the BTC – Ceyhan Terminal.Due to this loading operations have been suspended since 23 July 2025 from approximately 6 shore tanks, and there are reports of vessels delayed at anchor to commence loading operations. Initial reports in the media suggest that testing indicates the issue is not with the pipeline but local to select tanks at the terminal, as such there is a possibility that these shore tanks will require cleaning to resolve the issue and therefore vessels can expect ongoing delays. Load outs from other tanks / terminals on the BTC pipeline continue where the terminal operators have assessed the tanks as contaminate free. Members should be aware of this issue and always confirm any loading is being completed from tanks that are confirmed as free from contaminates. Manifold and first foot samples are essential and whenever possible should be confirmed as clear prior to continuing the load out.Correspondents will continue to monitor the situation, and members will be updated as more information is forthcoming.
