Hapag-Lloyd has introduced a temporary surcharge for barge shipments to and from CY Hengelo and CY Almelo in the Netherlands following the closure of the Twente Canal. Alternative terminals and transport arrangements are being used to maintain services while the canal remains closed. The temporary surcharge amounts to €178 per container for each one-way trip. It applies to barge transportation in both directions between the alternative facilities and CY Hengelo or CY Almelo. According to Hapag-Lloyd, the charge applies from 25 July 2025 and will remain in effect until further notice. It will be added to all existing rates and surcharges. Previously announced EBN Low Water Surcharges will also continue to apply where relevant. The carrier warned that the alternative routing arrangements could cause delays.
