Sallaum Lines has signed a shipbuilding contract with China Merchants Shipyard for one 8,600 CEU Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC), with an option for a second vessel. The newbuild will feature LNG dual-fuel propulsion and an ammonia-ready design. Delivery is scheduled for 2029. The latest order follows a separate agreement announced earlier this month with Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry for two firm 8,600 CEU PCTCs, plus options for two more vessels. With the new contract, Sallaum Lines’ newbuilding programme now totals nine vessels, representing an investment of more than US$850 million. The programme includes four vessels already delivered, two scheduled for delivery later in 2026, and three planned for 2029. The new vessel will be capable of transporting passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks, heavy equipment and project cargo. Sallaum Lines said the design will provide greater flexibility as global automotive trade continues to evolve. The carrier added that the LNG dual-fuel configuration will reduce emissions using currently available technology, while the ammonia-ready design will allow a future conversion if ammonia becomes commercially viable as a marine fuel. “Only weeks after our 2+2 order at Xiamen Shipbuilding, we are pleased to confirm an additional one-plus-one 8,600 CEU vessel,” said Hasan Sallaum, Managing Director of Sallaum Lines. “This shows the momentum behind our fleet renewal programme and our confidence in the long-term fundamentals of the PCTC market.” According to the company, the investment will strengthen its ability to serve customers across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas with modern and environmentally prepared RoRo tonnage.
