Several container ship owners have placed or are preparing newbuilding orders as fleet renewal activity continues across the sector, according to DynaLiners. Zodiac Maritime has contracted eight scrubber-fitted 6,400 TEU containerships at Hengli Heavy Industry . Two vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028 , while the remaining six will be handed over in 2029 . Meanwhile, Jiangsu Port Group has ordered six 4,600 TEU containerships from Hengli Shipbuilding through its wholly owned subsidiary Zhenghe Haimin (Jiangsu) Container Transportation . The vessels will cost around US$73.8 million each , although no delivery schedule has been announced. In China, Sinotrans is preparing to place a second order for four 1,800 TEU containerships at China Merchants Shipbuilding’s Qingshan Shipyard . If confirmed, the move will double the company’s newbuilding programme at the yard to eight vessels . The first four ships are due for delivery in 2028 , while details of the second batch have not yet been disclosed. At the same time, Norwegian owner Songa Box has placed a firm order for two 1,300 TEU containerships at Guangji New Energy Shipbuilding . The agreement also includes options for four additional vessels . The shipbuilder and owner have not released pricing or delivery dates. The latest orders highlight continued investment in feeder and regional container vessels, with Chinese shipyards securing another series of contracts from both domestic and international owners.
