Indonesian offshore vessel operator Wintermar has ventured into the offshore accommodation segment in partnership with Rajawali Perak Mulia. A 50/50 jv has been set up to own and operate an accommodation work barge with a 300-passenger capacity, Wintermar said. The unnamed vessel is currently operating in Thailand and augments Wintermar’s fleet of around 50 OSVs supporting offshore projects in southeast Asia. Earlier this year the company strengthened its footprint in Brunei through a venture with a local-based partner. The partnership called Savwin in which it will hold 49% stake will initially operate a fast multipurpose supply vessel which is currently on a long-term contract until 2027. Wintermar has also been expanding its asset base backed by gain from rising charter rates and sale of vessels. The company invested $13.9m in three additional vessels, of which two are newbuild heavy load barges that will be delivered at the end of this year. The vessels will initially support drilling and exploration projects and gradually move into construction and production. The company last month secured a two-year project for two PSVs at charter rates more than double the average rate in 2023 for similar vessels.
