Toamasina in Madagascar has received the country’s first ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes, marking another milestone in the expansion of the Madagascar International Container Terminal (MICT). The terminal received two ZPMC STS cranes with an outreach of 67.5 metres, equivalent to 24 container rows. The cranes will operate at ICTSI’s Madagascar International Container Terminal. They are the first STS cranes ever installed in Madagascar. The equipment will serve the terminal’s new 333-metre C4 container quay, which entered service in March. The berth has a water depth of 16 metres. The investment is expected to improve vessel handling capacity and support larger container ships calling at the Port of Toamasina.
