Nippon Express has opened a new air freight handling facility in Bangladesh as the country sees growing demand for export logistics services. The Nippon Express Bangladesh Air Freight CFS is located in Gazipur District, around 10 km from Dhaka International Airport. The facility has a total floor area of 3,313 m² on a 4,473 m² site. According to Nippon Express, rising exports of apparel and other goods are increasing demand for air freight services in Bangladesh. The company opened the new facility to improve cargo handling and consolidate warehouse operations that were previously managed separately. Integrated air cargo operations The facility handles cargo receiving, exterior inspections, weighing and labelling before shipments are transported to the airport. It operates around the clock and includes four truck docks as well as vehicle staging space. Nippon Express has also installed a 360-degree CCTV system for 24-hour monitoring. Other safety measures include water storage tanks and fire suppression systems. Vehicles used to transport cargo to the airport are also equipped with additional security measures. “This facility is capable of meeting a wide range of needs, including temporary storage for household goods as well as air cargo export,” said Kei Sakai, Managing Director, NX Bangladesh. Sakai added that the facility will serve as a hub to support expected growth in export cargo demand. The opening comes as Bangladesh continues to expand its export activity, creating additional demand for air cargo handling and logistics infrastructure.
