The Port of Corigliano has inaugurated Calabria’s largest haulage and launching facility at the Cantieri Nautici Feraco shipyard, marking a significant step in the port’s diversification strategy and its ambition to develop nautical and recreational activities alongside its commercial vocation. The inauguration took place during the Mare in Movimento event, which hosted the Italian Jet Ski and Hydrofly Championships, drawing athletes, enthusiasts and industry professionals to Corigliano-Rossano. The new facility, developed through a public-private partnership, includes a slipway and launching basin, a fuel station and a dedicated area for yachtsmen, significantly expanding the range of services available to naval operators and recreational boating users. The infrastructure is designed to strengthen maritime services for one of the most important naval communities in central and southern Italy while opening new opportunities for nautical operators in the region. Paolo Piacenza, President of the Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Sea Port Authority, described the inauguration as restoring a new perspective to the region and framed it as a further step in the port’s development and diversification strategy. He highlighted the forthcoming adoption of the System Strategic Planning Document, which identifies Corigliano as a designated location for recreational boating development, and outlined planned investments in infrastructure and hospitality. Among the projects included in the Three-Year Operational Plan is the construction of a House of Sea Sports at the port, designed to attract visitors and consolidate Corigliano’s role as a hub for sporting, nautical and maritime recreational activities. Piacenza expressed the ambition to transform the port from a separate industrial space into a genuine link between the city and the sea, capable of generating new economic development opportunities for the wider community.
