ABS Consulting has signed an agreement with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) to support the development of the company’s software-defined vessel (SDV) platform. The agreement was signed during the launch of the Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Partnership Center (KUSPC) in Washington, D.C. It brings together ABS Consulting, ABS Wavesight and HD KSOE to establish a framework for software quality, verification and implementation. The partners said the initiative aims to strengthen the development of software-defined vessels, which replace many traditional hardware-based functions with software-driven systems. Under the agreement, ABS Consulting and ABS Wavesight will provide expertise in software quality assurance, verification, governance and implementation readiness for the SDV platform. The project builds on the long-standing collaboration between ABS, its affiliated companies and HD Hyundai to advance digital technologies in shipbuilding and improve vessel safety and performance. David Wechsler, President and CEO of ABS Consulting, said software is becoming central to the design, integration and operation of next-generation vessels. He added that strong quality governance and independent validation are essential to ensuring performance, reliability and long-term operational readiness. HD KSOE said advanced software will play a growing role in future ship design. The company expects the partnership to accelerate its artificial intelligence and digital transformation initiatives while supporting the development of software-defined vessels.
