COSL Drilling Europe has secured another contract extension for its semisubmersible COSLPioneer, with Vår Energi exercising the second option on the rig in Norway. The latest extension will keep the unit working into the first half of 2027, adding further backlog and maintaining continuity on the Norwegian continental shelf. The move follows the original award signed in 2024, which covered an 18-month firm period along with up to 3.5 years of optional work split into seven six-month increments. The first of those options was exercised in December 2025, with the second now confirmed. With five options still on the table, the contract has the potential to run through to early 2030 if all are taken up, giving COSL long-term visibility in a key North Sea market. Chief executive of the European arm of China Oilfield Services Limited, Frank Tollefsen, said the extension reflects steady operational delivery and a close working relationship between the two companies.
