Preparatory work is advancing at the future Contrecœur container terminal in Quebec, with the delivery of the steel sheet piles that will form the terminal’s new wharf. The shipment included 415 sheet piles, manufactured from 95% recycled steel at an ArcelorMittal plant in Luxembourg. The sheet piles were shipped from the Port of Antwerp to Quebec. Logistec handled the unloading before the structures were transported by truck to the construction site. Each sheet pile measures 23 metres long and 1.6 metres wide. They also weigh around five tonnes each. The operation required 95 truck deliveries and specialised handling equipment. The sheet piles will form the front wall of the future wharf. Workers will drive them into the ground before combining them with piles to create a continuous steel structure. A second row of sheet piles will act as an anchor wall to strengthen and stabilise the wharf. The delivery marks another milestone for the project ahead of planned in-water construction, which is scheduled to begin in August.
